Make Old Clothes Into New Fashion

Reviving the old clothes is an art itself, these days we find ourselves revisiting our closets rather than going out to the stores. Making old clothes into a new fashion can be a wonderful way to create a different look on the cheap. With some easy step and little imagination you can step out in new styles in not time.

SHORTEN AND ACCESSORIZE AN OLD DRESS put the dress on use a few pins to mark where you like the new hemline to fall. Lay the dress inside out on a flat surface, use a chalk to mark your new hemline, make it sure that you marked a line is parallel to the old hemline. Use a ruler to do this only if the hem is straight. Remove the pin use scissors to cut the dress ½ inch longer than your marked line. Fold back to hem on the marked line with the excess toward the inside, use the threaded needle to create a running stitch along the hemline, catching the seam allowance as well. A running stitch is a stitch where the needle is inserted through the top of the fabric, then through the back about ¼ inch away parallel to the fabric edge. Use a wide, brightly colored belt to cinch the waist of the dress….

MAKE A PAIR OF OLD JEAN INTO CUT OFF SHORTS lay jeans on a flat surface, use pins to mark where you like the new hem. Use the chalk to mark the new hem line, remove the pins. Use the scissors to cut away the pant legs where you have already marked. Wash the shorts a few times to allow the hem to ravel and set. Add an embroidered patch to the back pockets by stitching it on with a needle using running stitch.

DYE AND ACCESSORIZE AN OLD JACKET fill a shallow wide container with warm water, add dye to the water and mix continue mixing the dye to get the correct shade. Dip a small edge of the jacket into the dye to test for the right color, this could also be done with a piece of scrap fabric, but if the color is different than the jacket it won’t look the same. Submerge the jacket in the dye bath and agitate. Remove the jacket rinse it out using cold, clean water, if the color is too light re-submerge in the dye bath. Hang to dry, all a fabric flower or bow pin to the front of the jacket for a new twist.

WHAT TO WEAR IN THE BEACH

Going to the beach is a favorite pastime for many people, and there’s a wide selection of suits, accessories and lotions for beach-goers to choose from. Whether you’ll be sunning yourself on a beach in the Mediterranean or hitting the Jersey shore, you’ll want to pack for the occasion and leave for the beach armed with the necessary items.

Swimsuit – Trying on swimsuits strikes fear and panic in many women. Those revealing bikinis and tankinis can show off a little more than you bargained for if you’ve been indulging a little too much and haven’t been to the gym in a few months. Fortunately, designers have taken every body shape into consideration when creating their swimwear lines. Your local department store should have a wide variety of suits that camouflage your least favorite body parts. Women can purchase a suit that includes a small flirty skirt, or try a suit with short board shorts. Don’t forget to include a flouncy, sexy cover-up. Buy a sarong if you are bottom heavy, or wear a long cover-up that resembles a large shirt. Men’s options allow them to wear long board shorts along with a swim shirt with rash guard. Purchase swim shirts in both long and short sleeves.

Sunscreen – One of the most important things you can wear at the beach is a good sunscreen. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 1 million people are diagnosed with a nonmelanoma skin cancer each year. Melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, strikes approximately 70,000 individuals every year. Your best defense against skin cancer is a good offense. Apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 all over your body before you hit the beach. The American Cancer Society suggests applying a palm full before you go in the sun, and then reapply after you swim or sweat. Don’t forget the sunscreen on hazy days, because ultraviolet rays can still burn your skin through clouds.

Hat and Glasses – Wearing a hat and glasses protects your face and eyes when you are at the beach, and it also can make a fashion statement. Find a large hat that will provide coverage for your face and neck. A wide-brimmed straw hat offers coverage and ventilation on a hot day. Another option is to wear a visor or a baseball cap; however, be sure you apply plenty of sunscreen on your neck and around your jawline to protect your skin from the sun. Sunglasses make a cool statement and provide protection for your eyes. Just like your skin, your eyes are vulnerable to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Wear sunglasses with 99 to 100 percent UV absorption for full protection. Extreme sun exposure to your eyes can cause macular degeneration and cataracts, so keep those shades handy.

It’s summer…

Wear a shelf bra or bikini top to stay cool at the festival, but don’t be obscene about it. Layer a sheer top or vest with it. And, make sure the girls are secure — if you know what I mean.

Turn a Pair of Denim Jeans into a Mini Skirt

Dig through your drawers and find a pair of jeans that you no longer wear. Lay your jeans flat and cut them off where the legs meet at the crotch. Put the garment on and use a measuring tape to measure from the crotch down to where you want your skirt to fall. Also measure around your legs. These two measurements will be the dimensions of the piece of material you will need to sew onto the bottom of the cut-off jeans. Cut a piece of denim from one of the legs of your jeans using the measurements you have taken. Sew this piece to the bottom of your skirt. Rub a cheese grater against the surface of the fabric to create trendy holes, or, for a decorative finish, sew a strip of lace to the wrong side of the fabric along the hem. Make sure the edge of the lace is visible from the right side of the skirt. Add flower patches or sequins with a hot glue gun for added detail.

Wear a Strapless Summer Dress

The strapless dress is a figure-flattering dress that shows off the curves of the shoulders and neckline. Often seen during the warmer months, the strapless dress is a classic look that will reappear each season. At one time the dress was only flattering to the hourglass shape; now the dress comes in a variety of different cuts to benefit all body types. Pair the dress with trendy accessories for a fashion-forward look, or keep the look chic and simple for a classic appearance.

1. Wear undergarments that flatter your body. The foundation of the dress always starts from under the dress; therefore choose a strapless bra that is fitted to your size. The bra will support your chest area and fill out the top if the dress tastefully. Visit a lingerie store to have your chest measured for an accurately fitting strapless bra. In addition, purchase and wear seamless panties to avoid unwanted panty lines under the dress. Women who need everything held in can purchase a body suit to conform to the body under the dress.

2. Choose the right strapless style to flatter your body. The dress accommodates almost every body shape as long as you purchase the right cut. Smaller bust lines may steer towards dresses with center pleating or gathering along the bust-line to give the illusion of a large bust, while larger busted women may want additional support sewn into the dress.

3. Accessorize the dress to personalize your style. Create a chic style by wrapping a thin or thick belt around your waist and wearing several long layers of necklaces. Go casual with simple, dangle earrings and a coordinating bracelet. Classic looks require minimal jewelry, such as stud earrings and a simple necklace. Play around with different handbags that are trendy for the summer season.

4. Add length to legs by wearing nude wedges with a strapless dress, or strappy heels for a night look. Shoes can give the dress extra pizzazz, especially solid, one-color dresses. Pair a wild pattern wedge heel with a short, strapless, day dress or a high stiletto with a form-fitting, night dress. Other shoe options include gladiator sandals, wedges that tie up the ankle and canvas sneakers. Skip flip flops and leave those for the beach.
